📣 Meet the 2025 Poetics Lab Cohort!
We are excited to be working with a range of talented creatives on our brand-new Poetics Lab programme.
Sessions will be run by: Pascale Petit, Malika Booker, Victoria Kennefick, Alycia Pirmohamed, Richard Scott, Nii Ayikwei Parkes, Anthony Anaxagorou, Caroline Bird, Sarah Howe, Fiona Benson, Ariana Benson and Spread the Word’s Courtney Conrad.
The first session kicks off in September and we cannot wait to share what we get up to. Keep your eyes peeled.

Her story moves between 1905 Calcutta, where Puti travels to England as an Ayah to save her mother, and 2013 Hackney, where Sophia discovers the historical Ayah’s Home, forever changing how she sees the world 🌍

In this creative family workshop, author Annabelle Sami will encourage adults and children to explore their creativity together, learning how games and play can be used to come up with amazing ideas for stories. Expect lots of fun, creative writing & imagination-ing with your loved ones!
The workshop will begin at 10am and will last until midday. You are then free to hang out at MB, grab some more drinks & books from our bookshelves!
This workshop is for young people and adults aged 7+
All young people must be accompanied by an adult throughout the workshop, it is not a drop-off workshop!

Join award winning author Annabelle Sami as she shares her tips for writing a laugh out loud story. Hear from her funny book series Llama Out Loud, share your best jokes and create your own comedy animal sidekick.

Join writer, director and performer Annabelle Sami for a highly engaging event as she introduces her Waterstones Children’s Book Award shortlisted series Llama Out Loud about ten-year-old Yasmin’s adventures with her sassy llama friend Levi. You’ll hear side-splitting storytelling from the latest book Llama on Holiday and create your own guardian llama holiday adventure! Children will also have the chance to ask Annabelle questions in a live Q&A.

In Annabelle’s fun and friendly children’s session she will introduce the kids to the world of funny story writing and why humour is so important in books. She’ll also talk about writing detective stories and how to solve a crime, just like in her Agent Zaiba Investigates series. There will be lots of chances for the audience to join in including a joke telling contest, creating their own brand new talking animal sidekicks and creating their very own detective agency.
She will also take part in a panel discussion and signing after the event.
